Reader Reviews

I hate to finish it, to leave the characters behind. You have a beautiful story on your hands. There is so much power and emotion contained in it. Thank you again, Jacqueline, for the privilege of being able to work on your creation. It was definitely a highlight of my career. I hope you write many more novels and ask me to copyedit every single one of them!

This book is a fascinating study of a dysfunctuional family and proves the point of how we all pass our personal problems on to the next generation. The characters are fully developed and it is interesting to see how their lives change with the passage of time. The story itself is extremely interesting and I found myself anxious to keep reading to find out what happens next in the lives of these very real people. I think it would make a terrific movie.

It took me two and a half days of having the flue to read your book, I could not put it down I had to finish it and also finish being sick. During my publishing career I had many ideas, concepts and manuscripts in front of me, and only a few I remember and published. Lately I have been reading friends and friends of friends manuscripts and most of them I had to put away and admit I could not continue, as in "I could not chew it". Jacqueline I have to say you are talented and have a gift of bringing the story in a unique way. The travel intermezzo's are genius and all builds up to a crescendo. At one point I really did not feel well and that was when I was reading too much about Grace's misery, I could have done with a little less, but ... it glued me to the pages and I had to read on to feel her misery, and it is exactly that what makes the book so intense. The Scottish reading style, you forget after a while once you start understanding the meaning, and once you are at it, it adds to the intensity of reading and the atmosphere. I am sure you will find a publisher, and if you have an agent, they are lucky to discover your talent.
